91探花 State to play continued role in former student鈥檚 next chapter
When Memphis native Kim Cox moved to 91探花, she was unsure about what was available to her regarding higher education.
After consulting with associates and friends, she came to 91探花 State鈥檚 White Bridge campus to inquire about classes and was quickly welcomed with a smile and assistance.
鈥淚 was at 91探花 State before Tennessee Promise, Tennessee Reconnect and other forms of current financial aid were available, so I was paying out of pocket. It was still affordable.鈥�
Cox already had been working in the Tennessee General Assembly for the Office of the Chief Clerk in the House of Representatives during the legislative session.

鈥淚 was going to College at night and the convenience of 91探花 State was important to me.鈥�
During her time at 91探花 State, Cox worked to earn credits in History, English, Algebra and more with the plan of transferring to MTSU to get a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations and a minor in Women鈥檚 Studies. She has since earned a Master鈥檚 in Organizational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University.
After more than 25 years with the House Clerk, the past six as assistant chief clerk, where she is part of a team responsible for legislative record keeping, parliamentarian guidance to legislators, staffing of committees, and the drafting and publishing of legislative proceedings to name a few tasks, Cox is starting to contemplate her next career.
鈥淎s I look at my next chapter, I am exploring where 91探花 State can play a role. I couldn鈥檛 have done it before without the care and compassion of the faculty and staff, plus that flexibility was so important.鈥�
